“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
(2 Corinthians 5:21)
What is good! My name is Steven and I love Jesus, my family and the New York Mets! My story began in Brooklyn NY where I was born and raised. I met my wife, Joanna, at the early age of 14 years old. Our story together started and grew on the stoops of Brooklyn. Neither of us were raised in the church but at the age of 17, Jesus captured our hearts and changed our lives. We were baptized the same day and decided early on that we would dedicate our lives to serving the Lord together. We were married on July of 2008 and are now parents to Gracelyn, Emily and Steven Jr. I discovered early on in my faith journey that I had a passion and a gift in teaching and preaching the Bible.
At the early age of 20, I preached my very first Sunday sermon. I love to study the Bible and to read anything that can help me grow in my passion. Joanna also discovered her gift of mercy and discernment early on in her faith journey and began to use it to serve our families and the young ladies at the church. Our journey in Christ lead us to helping to plant two separate churches in Brooklyn. I have served on staff as an elder and Connections Pastor at these church plants.
As a church planter, I have grown in my passion to seeing people come to faith and to grow as fully devoted followers of Jesus. I enjoy not only being a part of a community but being an active servant in the community. It is my strong belief that God calls His children to live their lives on mission wherever He has planted them. This means to serve at our work places, our schools, local parks, libraries and anywhere we can meet a person in need.
In August of 2020, our family made the move to Long Island after much prayer. It certainly wasn’t an easy move for two life-long Brooklyn kids. But as we have learned throughout our journey, God is moving and orchestrating every detail of our lives. This certainly includes those decisions that are made without all the details. Our love for suburban living has certainly grown. We enjoy family time in our yard, grilling, watching movies together and making weekend trips to Walmart (well, not so much for the kids). I still enjoy watching the Mets and coaching baseball, especially passing on my love for the game to my son. These are just some of the things that make us the Berrios family. I am excited for all that God has in store for my family and Long Island in the years to come. It would bring me great joy to love and serve you.
For Christ, Steven
